MEDICAL CAMP-2011

Pungudutivu (Tamil: புங்குடுதீவு) is a small island composed of number villages that is just west of the Jaffna Peninsula in Sri Lankan Tamil dominated Northern Province. It is 30 km from Jaffna town. It is divided into 12 wards internally, each corresponding a major settlement. Most of the residents of the Island are Tamils with majority being Hindus and a minority Christians. The civil war has also led a large number of people to migrate out of the Island throughout the world.

Medical clinic in pungudutivu, Jaffna
A medical camp was organized by the Sri Lanka Unites school club of St. John’s  College Jaffna in Pungudutivu Maha Vidyalayam on 14th june 2011. 4 Doctors and 4 Nurse volunteered for this one day clinic. The program was founded by the Almaydua Foundation. The estimated target group was 500 and it was amazing to see that 430 people ranging from small infants to old people turned up. 307 people obtained prescriptions from the doctors and received the free medicines. This camp was well appreciated by the public as the hospital in pungudutivu opens only twice a week and many people living in that area couldn’t afford to go to other hospitals and buy medicines. This medical clinic opened up paths for the public to get medical attention which had been neglected for years.

The following 4 doctors and 4 nurses volunteered for the medical clinic.
