“Future Sri Lanka, as we see it”

·       The Sri Lanka Unites club of St.John’s college, Jaffna has organized a campaign among the SLU clubs of neighbouring schools on 15th of June 2011 at the Peto memorial hall of St.John’s college, Jaffna. Enhancing the leadership qualities of the future leaders and promoting the feel for a better nation were mainly discussed in this campaign. Chundikuli Girls’ college, St.Patrick’s college, Osmaniya College, Uduvil Girls’ college and Vembadi Girls’ High school were invited for this programme. The students were divided into eight teams and a leader was assigned to each team. The programme started at 9.30am and Mas.H.Solomon Rajaram, the president of the SLU club of St.John’s college delivered his welcome address. Then, a documentary video clip on the past events happened in our country and the rapid progression of Sri Lanka was shown. Later, each team was given a name and a group time was given for the introduction of each self to others in the team. Then, the students played some lead-up games which taught the morals like the attitude and the disciplined tone of voice of a leader in facing a problem, making decisions beneficial to all and trusting completely on each other in the team. Later, a group time was given and during the time, we discussed and produced a set of problems faced by a leader in carrying out his tasks. Then, by 11.00am, participants were refreshed with chilled drinks. After that, Mr.Nishan, member of the SriLanka Unites Executive committee and one of our distinguished old boys addressed the students about the motives of this foundation and its inevitable necessity in building up a better SriLanka.

·         After that session, teams were given time to draw their thoughts on today’s theme, “Future SriLanka as we see it”. Leaving the arrears on the art aside, students marched to the dining hall by 1.30pm to have their lunch. After the lunch, ice-cream was served to the participants. Then, we continued the work remaining on the art for some time and then the girls played a moral game to show how the people are discriminated in the society in their strive to come forward. Then, the boys ran to the ground and played Valley-ball. After the game, all the candidates gathered in the pavilion for the tea party. Guests and students were served with chilled coffee and bun. Our principal addressed the gathering and greatly appreciated the energy of the club. Then, Mas.J.Andrew Vasanthan, the secretary of the club presented his vote of thanks. Then, mementos were presented to our principal, Mr.Nishan from the SLU executive committee and to the sponsors of this programme. Finally, we took a photograph and the programme came to an end by 4.45pm.
